چکیده

There has been considerable success over the past five decades in developing a phenomenological and micromechanism-based understanding of lastic flow, creep and superplasticity. Although it is widely known that grain sizes have a distribution in polycrystals and nanocrystals, this factor s usually not included in most analysis of deformation and failure. Experimental observations relating to the influence of grain size distributions re discussed briefly, and an analysis is developed to consider the influence of this factor on the transition from grain boundary strengthening to rain boundary weakening in nanocrystalline materials. The transition from grain boundary strengthening to weakening becomes broader with an ncrease in the standard deviation of the grain size distribution. It is demonstrated that the observed standard deviations for grain size distributions nd nominal errors in grain size measurements can lead to substantially different experimental observations under nominally identical conditions.

On the effect of grain size on rock behavior under cyclic loading by distinct element method

It is well-known that the mechanical behavior of rocks under cyclic loading is much different from static loading conditions. In most constructions, the load applied to structures is within dynamic ranges. That’s why a great deal of attention has been paid towards this field in order to identify the dynamic behavior of rocks in more details. Nevertheless, the nature of dynamic failure in rocks ...

Plastic deformation of 7075 Aluminum Alloy using Integrated Extrusion-Equal Channel Angular Pressing

Grain refinement improves the mechanical properties and formability of metals and alloys. So far, several different grain refinement methods have been proposed and studied. Severe plastic deformation is one of the most promising and efficient methods. Therefore, in the present study the possibility of imposing a two-step severe plastic deformation (Extrusion and Equal channel angular pressing) ...

Triple junction diffusion and plastic flow in fine-grained materials

A theoretical model is suggested which describes the yield stress dependence on grain size in fine-grained materials, based upon competition between conventional dislocation slip, grain boundary diffusional creep (Coble creep) and triple junction diffusional creep. In the framework of the model, the contribution of diffusional creep mechanisms to plastic deformation increases with reduction of ...

EBSD characterization of nano/ultrafine structured Al/Brass composite produced by severe plastic deformation

In the present work, nano/ultrafine structured Al/Brass composite was produced by accumulative roll bonding (ARB) up to eight cycles. The evolution of grain refinement and deformation texture and their effect on the mechanical properties were investigated. It was observed that by increasing the ARB cycles, due to the difference in flow properties of the metal constituents, brass layers necked, ...

MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ULTRAFINE-GRAINED COPPER TUBE PRODUCED BY SEVERE PLASTIC DEFORMATION

In this paper, cyclic flaring and sinking (CFS) as a new severe plastic deformation (SPD) method was employed to produce the ultrafine grain (UFG) copper tubes. The extra friction has eliminated in the CFS method that provided the possibility for production of longer UFG tubes compared to the other SPD methods. This process was done periodically to apply more strain and consequently finer grain...
